A very quick drawing of “ancient Aliens,” which is a theory I think diminishes the ingenuity of ancient man and is very dumb. Just because we forgot how to do things (like build pyramids with ancient tools) doesn’t mean other people didn’t know how.

For this episode we went back and talked about how comics had touched our lives and shaped them in some way. We talked about the power of the page-flip, or getting the latest issue at the news stand for the older folk. I drew this during our discussion.

This was a drawing to the theme of making the podcast we had been doing for a while at this point more professional by bringing in the drawing, adding my long-awaited tech-check, and working on our quality. In the honor of working on the podcast, I drew a fancy microphone.

I don’t remember what the topic was exactly for this drawing, but I do remember I was drawing in “an Urfspace style,” when I did it. I went for big eyes and bright colors like Chuck does with his art.

This was a commission for the same person who commissioned the other two “and cat” paintings.

I drew this one today, the day I’m uploading all of these. It’s a quicky sketch of a mountain ridge near a water feature with some rocks. Not nearly the same time taken in this one as some of the other Inktobers from this set, but also done way past the deadline.

Likenesses are really hard to draw. I felt like I didn’t catch Simone Biles’ likeness close enough for me to get away with just her, so I cheated and added the Olympic rings on her leotard. They weren’t in the original reference photo but I feel like they help “sell” the likeness.

It’s weird. Whenever I think I did a really bad job on something, I’ll get a like out of nowhere on a social media platform or a comment where someone will say they like something I was worried about. In this case, it was “the texture of the leather,” I did a few passes with a couple of different brushes to try and get that “bumpy” look some old leather gets. I guess it worked out. 🙂

Kurt Cobain was a young rock star who dies at 27 at the top of his game. He fought substance abuse issues, had the worst taste in women, and was so much smarter than people ever gave him credit for. Sensitive in his journal writings and lyrics. My brother admired him.

The original Hitchhikers’ Guide in the book itself is described as an oversized calculator looking thing with the words “Don’t Panic,” inscribed on the outside cover, but I wanted to show the calculator part, so I put the “Don’t Panic,” on the inside cover. The effect of the white paint against the black looks cool too.
